Macdonald warehouse in Paris

In connection with the Grand Paris Urban Renewal Project, the biggest warehouse in Paris was recently entirely refurbished. ArcelorMittal Construction France and ArcelorMittal Europe – Long Products were among the contributors of this project.

A huge conversion project

The Grand Paris Urban Renewal Project (GPRU) which was launched in March 2002, aims to improve the quality of life and city infrastructure in the Parisian suburbs. In this context, Macdonald warehouse, built in 1970 and covering 165,000m² in the North-East of Paris went under a major makeover and is one of the biggest multi-purpose “live, work, play, shop” venues in France.

You can find there:

  • 1,700 flats
  • 35,500 m² of shops and stores
  • 28,000m² of offices
  • 16,000m² of communal activities space
  • 1,300 parking spaces
  • 2 schools
  • 1 gymnasium
  • 1 nursery
  • 1 bank
  • 1 associative social centre

ArcelorMittal, partner of the project since 2009

ArcelorMittal Construction France played a key part in this project as from 2009, working closely with ICADE, a major player in the Grand Paris regional development project. We offered the right steel solutions and technical expertise to the SICRA-GTM company (part of the Vinci Group) and supplied:

  • 12,000 m² of Cofradal® 200
  • 10,000 m² of Cofraplus® 60
  • 5,000 m² of Cofraplus® 77
  • 70 tonnes of Slim Floor Beams (SFB) for the flooring and other interior structures in collaboration with Long Products

ArcelorMittal Europe – Long Products provided:

  • 1,000 tonnes of castellated beams to build the 7-storey office building of BNP Paribas
  • 400 tonnes of cambered IPE and HE profiles to support the composite floor system built in the basement to set up an additional parking floor

All the beams were produced in Luxembourg and delivered by Eurostructures, the beam finishing service of Differdange.

Steel composite solutions were mainly used on the upper floors while the others were built with concrete. Nonetheless, Macdonald warehouse renovation is a great example of composite construction in the Paris area.
