ArcelorMittal Ostrava will supply tram axles to Škoda Transportation for three more years

ArcelorMittal Engineering Products Ostrava, a subsidiary of ArcelorMittal Ostrava recently signed a contract extension to supply tram axles to Škoda Transportation for three more years.

Cooperation between ArcelorMittal Ostrava and Škoda Transportation began in late 2013. Over the past four years, the Ostrava manufacturer has supplied over a thousand axles for the Škoda 26T and 28T trams designed for foreign markets. Thanks to the good cooperation between the two companies, the original contract signed for three years has now been extended till 2020, leading to further delivery of hundreds of axles.

Škoda Transportation’s first order, which went to the Turkish city of Konya, was followed by the success of the second project in the city of Eskişehir. "Škoda Transportation is successful with its trams in many tenders around the world. The cooperation brings interesting contracts to the ArcelorMittal´s engineering plant in Ostrava as well," said Daniel Doležal, Sales and Marketing Manager of ArcelorMittal Engineering Products Ostrava.

Since 2013, ArcelorMittal Engineering Products Ostrava, a subsidiary of ArcelorMittal Ostrava, has supplied more than a thousand axles for trams produced by Škoda Transportation. Over 160 trams with chassis manufactured in Ostrava transport passengers in Slovakia, Hungary or Turkey.

Trams drive hundreds of kilometres every day and are in continuous operation. Therefore, quality is a key prerequisite for a successful cooperation. "We are pleased that the trams from Pilsen contain as many parts as possible manufactured in the Czech Republic. Thus, we support local economic growth and employment," said Michal Tobrman, Head of Communications of Škoda Transportation.

“After a weak year we see market recovery in the field of mechanical engineering and related areas. The need of cities for replacement of old trams is growing. This year, we have officially signed a three-year extension to the existing contract with Škoda Transportation. This gives us the opportunity to supply our axles to several running projects across Europe," adds Doležal.
