ArcelorMittal at Bauma 2022

ArcelorMittal participated in Bauma 2022 in Munich on October 24-30, with two divisions of ArcelorMittal Europe – Long Products present to meet the key players of the construction, building materials and mining machinery industries.

Spotlight on our latest sheet piling innovations

ArcelorMittal Sheet Piling teams came to highlight our latest innovations:

  • XCarb®, part of our goal to reach carbon neutrality by 2050,
  • EcoSheetPile™ Plus helping to reduce the environmental impact of infrastructure and foundation projects,
  • and our new SmartSheetPile solution making infrastructure operations safer and more cost-effective, with a live demonstration.

The EcoSheetPile™ Plus range of steel sheet piles is part of ArcelorMittal's XCarb® recycled and renewably produced initiative. They are made from 100% recycled material in an electric arc furnace and are manufactured using 100% renewable electricity from wind and solar sources.
Certified by a dedicated Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), the production of the EcoSheetPile™ Plus range generates only 370 kg of CO₂-eq. per ton of finished steel produced. This is significantly lower than the average for the global steel industry of around 2.3 tonnes of CO2e emissions per tonne of steel products.

Our SmartSheetPile concept was a real eye catcher and attracted outstanding feedback from the visitors, being project owners, consultants and contractors, and also from universities, with a professor giving a lecture to his engineering students at our booth.
Subsequently, our demonstrator is already booked in 2023 for a key infrastructure construction tradeshow in the Netherlands, as well as for a major geotechnics and construction fair in France.

When not used at tradeshows, the demonstrator will be displayed at the ArcelorMittal AOB building in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg, and available for stakeholder visits and trainings, in combination with mill visits.

SmartSheetPile from ArcelorMittal: Sheet piles go digital – measure, analyse, troubleshoot

SmartSheetPile provides data in real time and detects potential structural usage weaknesses at most early stages. The goal of the next generation’s sheet piling solution is to enable preventive maintenance and extended project lifetime. With this technology, sensors built into the sheet pile collect high quality and precise data that can be analysed and used for informed decision-making.

Relevant information on the structural condition of the sheet pile wall, for example regarding corrosion, deformation or inclination, can be displayed on online monitoring dashboards or even fed into the asset’s digital twin. The SmartSheetPile is able to identify accidental or weather-related damage and sound an alarm in the event of a disaster. For example, potential flooding could be prevented.

"Monitoring the infrastructure in real time will enable early warning of potential failure risks so that preventive measures can be taken. This reduces maintenance costs, prevents failures and increases the life of the structure. We already offer such tailor-made solutions today. Beyond that we are developing SmartSheetPile further for a standardised industrial launching in the next years", Tapas Rajderkar, Chief Marketing Officer of ArcelorMittal Europe – Long Products, explains the benefits of the technology.

WireSolutions reach new markets in Germany

Our WireSolutions teams from Bourg-en-Bresse were also there, to promote our brands, present our hoisting and mining ropes, and develop new markets especially with OEM and mining companies.

More than 150 visitors came to our stand, who appreciated its simple but efficient design, complemented by 3D printed samples, brochures, and leaflets.

A massive attendance

The 33rd edition of Bauma, the world's leading trade fair for construction machinery, building material machines, mining machines, construction vehicles and construction equipment attracted over 500,000 visitors over 200 countries, as well as 3,200 exhibitors from some 60 countries
Organised every 3 years, Bauma remains a powerhouse of the construction-equipment industry, thanks to a wide range of innovations displayed with a focus on decarbonisation and digitalisation for the 2022 edition.

The next BAUMA fair will be held in Munich from 7 to 13 April, 2025.
