Steligence at Bridges 2022

Steligence®participated in the event called Bridges 2022 that took place on 9 and 10 March 2022 in Coventry, UK.

The Bridges conference and exhibition is the annual leading event for bridge owners and operators in the UK. It celebrated this year its 30th anniversary.

This year, the event gathered around 400 bridge specialists including architects, engineers, contractors and bridge owners. It was the opportunity to present significant bridges built around the world recently, but also focus on repair and maintenance of existing and historical bridges.

Amongst the topics, strong focus was put on sustainability and carbon neutrality as they are emerging themes in the bridge sector. Brian Duguid, chair of the newly formed Net Zero Steel Bridge Group, gave a keynote on “Accelerating progress towards Net Zero bridges”.

During the conference on 9 March, Neil Tilley, Senior Technical Sales Engineer & Business Development in the UK, presented ArcelorMittal’s strategy towards zero-carbon steel. His presentation gave insight into where the carbon is in steel making, how decarbonisation will align with the Paris Agreement, the importance of EPDs and the solutions available today for bridge owners and designers.

It is important to highlight that reducing embodied carbon in steel for bridges requires an understanding of the manufacturing process, its relationship and effects on steel products and supply chains, and how to interpret supporting data.
