The first plant of its kind in Europe
The biodiesel plant will be capable of processing all kinds of feedstocks – including fatty acids from vegetable oil – refining and liquid residues from industrial processes. It will have a biodiesel production capacity of 115,000 tonnes a year and will contribute to job creation for the Ghent community.
Storage tanks made with Industeel's high-quality plates
The plant will use technology from BDI-BioEnergy International GmbH for the engineering and for the installation of the tanks and piping system. Company Geldof has been commissioned for the fabrication of the 30 biodiesel storage tanks with diameters ranging from 3.3 m to 15.2 m and heights from 4.5 m to 20 m.
Industeel provided UR™ 304L and UR™ 316L austenitic stainless steel plates for the project. The plates, produced in Charleroi, Belgium, will be cut, rolled and welded and will be used for the construction of some of the tanks.
Commissioning is expected in October 2021.
