ArcelorMittal Europe – Long Products Sheet Piling participated in the 7th National Congress and the 4th Mediterranean Days celebrated by the Spanish Technical Association of Ports and Coasts (ATPyC). The key topic this year was Working with Nature, focusing on the sustainable development of maritime infrastructures.
Sustainability is one of the key topics that the construction industry is dealing with.
Working with Nature was the theme of the 7th National Congress of the Spanish Technical Association of Ports and Coasts (ATPyC ) & 4th Mediterranean Days, held from 17 to 19 October 2018 in Sevilla, Spain. Representatives from Port Authorities, civil engineering companies, design consultants and universities shared their best practices and recommendations to limit the environmental impact of port construction and coastal engineering with 230 delegates from 11 countries.
Environmental aspects of steel sheet pile solutions for maritime infrastructure and the use of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to compare the environmental impact of different alternatives was the focus of ArcelorMittal Sheet Piling’s presentation.
Also in partnership with ArcelorMittal Sheet Piling, SENER design consultants shared their new seismic design approach for the construction of quay walls in areas with high seismic activity built with steel sheet piles walls.
According to the European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) 2018 Port investment study, “European seaports (EU-27) currently face substantial investment needs of around EUR 48 billion for the period 2018 – 2027”.
With such a high level of investment in the coming years, hot rolled steel sheet piles are the material of choice for the sustainable development of ports and waterway infrastructures.
