Download our XCarb® Environmental Product Declarations (EPD)

An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a comprehensive, internationally harmonised report that details the life cycle analysis of a product. They are intended to inform prescribers and consumers on the environmental impact of the product and to ease the comparison between products.

EPDs are now available for six products which are manufactured via the BF route and are eligible for XCarb® green steel certificates.

The EPD for hot rolled steels is now available with the XCarb® recycled and renewably produced label, resulting in a CO2 footprint of 532kg CO2e per tonne of hot rolled coil.

EPDs for Magnelis® and organic coated steels with this XCarb® label will be available in Q3 of 2022.

The EPDs provide a life-cycle assessment, detailing the complete environmental footprint of steel sections, merchant bars in ArcelorMittal’s recently launched XCarb® recycled and renewably produced range. Thanks to XCarb® recycled and renewably produced, we are able to offer steel produced with a CO2 footprint as low as 0.33 per tonne of sections and merchant bars.

The new EcoSheetPile™ Plus brand, essential part of the XCarb™ recycled and renewably produced initiative, is thus based on the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) route using 100% recycled material and is additionally using 100% renewable electricity. This allows the production of the new EcoSheetPile™ Plus range with a further reduced carbon footprint; the Global Warming Potential (GWP A1-A3) is only 370 kg CO2-eq. per tonne of steel sheet pile, approximately 30% less then the EcoSheetPile™ range, and much more when compared with the predominant conventional steelmaking*. It comes also with a ‘Guarantee of Origin’ certifying the renewable sources for the electricity, audited by an external third party.

The EPD provides a life-cycle assessment detailing the complete environmental footprint of reinforcing steel in bars sold under ArcelorMittal’s XCarb® recycled and renewably produced brand. It certifies for our XCarb® rebars a global warming potential of 300 kg CO2 per tonne of steel of finished steel, which is far below the average carbon footprint of the rebars available on the market.
