3,000 m² of Cofrastra® in the new European Central Bank Headquarters

ArcelorMittal Construction Germany contributed to the construction of the New European Central Bank Headquarters in Frankfurt, inaugurated on March 18, 2015.

State-of-the-art architecture for European institution

These new headquarters combine both very old and state-of-the-art architecture as they are composed of 3 elements:

  • Grossmarkthalle, Frankfurt's former whole-sale market hall,
  • A 185m office tower composed of 2 polygonal towers joined by a glass atrium
  • An entrance building connecting the above

Built between 2010 and 2014, the building ensemble covers 185,000 m² including an underground car park and ancillary buildings such as the entry control points and the logistics centre.

ArcelorMittal Construction’s Cofrastra® 40 and 70

ArcelorMittal Construction Germany supplied more than 3,000m² of composite flooring decks Cofrastra® 40 (produced in Strasbourg) and Cofrastra® 70 for the connecting platforms, balconies and bridges. Cofrastra® profiles offer many advantages for this kind of structure:

  • Undercut geometry to guarantee an excellent adhesion between the steel and the concrete
  • Quick and easy installation of technical equipment beneath the slab thanks to an adapted fixing system
  • The floor deck serves as a horizontal wind brace and contributes to the stability of the entire building.
  • Substantial savings can be achieved in construction time & weight.
  • They can be installed manually, so no cranes are necessary on site

The project helped to transform an industrial area into a large, green area and contributed to the creation of a “green lung” for the city of Frankfurt.
