ArcelorMittal’s XCarb® recycled and renewably produced label is applied to steels produced in an electric arc furnace (EAF) using high levels of scrap and 100-percent renewable electricity.
The electricity used is independently verified and has a ‘Guarantee of Origin’ ensured by purchasing of ‘Renewable Energy Certificates’.
Purchasing our XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel allows you to reduce the global CO2 footprint of your projects, products, and finished goods. To calculate the total CO2 impact of your products, our customers can use the figures reported in the EPD: they are independently certified by a third-party.
Following the launch of XCarb® recycled and renewably produced in 2021, ArcelorMittal Europe – Long Products was the first business within the company to offer this low-carbon emissions steel, starting with sections and merchant bars, followed by sheet piles and rebar.
As of March 2022, ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products also started producing XCarb® recycled and renewably produced using an EAF and renewable electricity. The label has been applied to specific hot rolled coils, organic coated steels, and Magnelis® grades.
