Sustainably produced steel products are in demand: The steel distributor SPAETER Oberhausen, a company of the SPAETER Group, now has ArcelorMittal's low carbon-emissions XCarb® recycled and renewably produced rolled beams in its range, immediately available for all standard grades and most profiles. Produced from steel scrap and using renewable electricity, the beams achieve a carbon footprint of 40 per cent less CO2 emissions than conventionally produced comparable products.

“We can already produce CO2 reduced beams today. The potential in the market for sustainably produced steel products for the construction industry and other markets is enormous. We are pleased that the SPAETER Group will also rely on our XCarb® recycled and renewably produced beams in the future to promote sustainable construction with the advantages of low-carbon steels,” says Constantin von Livonius, Managing Director of ArcelorMittal Träger und Spundwand GmbH.

Thorsten Zensen, Managing Director of SPAETER Oberhausen, comments: “With ‘XCarb® recycled and renewably produced’, we have decided to include ArcelorMittal'slow carbon products in our delivery programme, as they enable our customers to achieve their sustainability goals more easily. This is because lowCO2 emissions in the manufacture of XCarb® products decisively complement the advantages of steel as a material with its high recycling rate and reusability.”

Together towards carbon-neutral steel with our customers

ArcelorMittal is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and reducing CO2 emissions in Europe by 35 per cent by 2030. ArcelorMittal's XCarb® initiative aims to drive ArcelorMittal's products and steelmaking towards carbon neutral steel.

The SPAETER Group itself is pursuing a clear climate strategy and intends to distribute the low-carbon steel beams, which are primarily used in the construction sector for sustainable infrastructure and buildings, throughout Europe.
