  • Inventing smarter steels for a better world

Electrical steels

Our planet requires us all to lead a more energy efficient lifestyle, and electrical steels are a key part of the solution. They enable energy to be generated efficiently and transformed into motion (particularly in e-mobility solutions).

ArcelorMittal has created and produced a wide range of electrical steels since 1917. Our clients recognise these high-tech steels for their quality, reliability, and sustainability. We continually invest in our electrical steel products, manufacturing processes, and production facilities so that we can help our clients to meet their challenges and build a more sustainable world together.

iCARe®: electrical steels for mobility

ArcelorMittal’s iCARe® range of electrical steels are dedicated to automotive traction motors. Our iCARe® electrical steels offer the best balance between low losses, high strength, and high polarisation. They enable OEMs to design compact, energy-efficient, lightweight, and power-dense traction motors with unmatched range.

Industry range for efficiency

To make energy generation (and electrical devices) more efficient, ArcelorMittal also offers our ‘Industry’ range. This includes a wide offer of fully processed and semi-processed non-oriented (NO) electrical steels. We also make pole sheets for large salient pole synchronous machines.

ArcelorMittal’s electrical offer for Industry answer the specific requirements for many applications including:

  • Hydro, wind, and turbo generators
  • Traction or propulsion motors for rail, e-buses, ships
  • Electrical equipment (such as switch gear)
  • Motors, hermetic motors, and generators for many applications.

State-of-the-art production facilities and services

ArcelorMittal’s electrical steels are produced in our European mills at Saint-Chély d’Apcher, Fos-sur-Mer, Dunkirk, Eisenhüttenstadt, and Florange.

ArcelorMittal also offers a comprehensive range of services including: technical support, R&D, and co-engineering. Manufacturers and carmakers who want to exploit the full potential of ArcelorMittal’s electrical steels can take advantage of our advanced technical support. This can include advanced characterisation and modelling, prototyping, and material handling. We also work with several steel service centres which specialise in electrical steels.
