Galvano Metaal adds XCarb® to its portfolio

Helping customers lower their footprint

Dutch metal distributor Galvano Metaal is introducing ArcelorMittal’s XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel for its hot rolled pickled sheets offering, giving its customers access to a lower-carbon steel solution as sustainability becomes an increasingly important factor in manufacturing and supply chain decisions.

The addition reflects growing demand for materials that can help manufacturers reduce the carbon footprint of their products while maintaining the performance and versatility of steel.

Offering customers more choice

For Galvano Metaal, the introduction of XCarb® is about giving customers access to a broader range of steel solutions.

"Decarbonisation is receiving increasing attention in our market. We want to be able to offer customers different options, and XCarb® is one of them," emphasises Sohail Rahimi, Purchasing Manager at Galvano Metaal.

Produced using recycled steel and renewable electricity, XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel enables manufacturers to explore lower-carbon material choices while responding to evolving customer and market expectations.

“The demand for XCarb® steel with a physically low CO₂ footprint is growing across virtually all market segments. By replacing conventional steel with XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel, manufacturers and end users can significantly reduce the CO₂ footprint of their products, without compromising on quality or functionality,” says Erwin De Proost, ArcelorMittal account manager for Galvano Metaal.

Galvano Metaal walks the talk

Sustainability is not only reflected in the products Galvano Metaal supplies, but also in its own operations. The company focuses on practical measures such as efficient route planning, solar energy, LED lighting, waste separation and a vehicle fleet that is largely hybrid or electric.

By sourcing exclusively from European producers, Galvano Metaal also supports efficient and responsible supply chains.

Helping customers navigate the low-carbon transition

As environmental considerations become increasingly important across value chains, manufacturers are looking for ways to better understand and reduce the impact of their products.

At the same time, they can contribute to a significant reduction in Scope 3 emissions across the supply chains of steel processors, manufacturers and end users, including in the consumer goods and construction sectors.

Lower-carbon steel solutions can help reduce the embodied carbon of end products and support lifecycle assessment (LCA) calculations. Together with environmental data such as Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), they can provide greater transparency and help customers make informed material choices.

Combining market knowledge and steel expertise

Galvano Metaal became familiar with XCarb® through its long-standing relationship with ArcelorMittal and values the support of a global steel producer with extensive technical expertise and a broad steel portfolio.

By combining Galvano Metaal's market knowledge and customer relationships with ArcelorMittal's expertise in lower-carbon steelmaking, the two companies aim to support manufacturers on their journey towards more sustainable products and supply chains.
