Founded in 1966 in Milano, the CTA – Collegio dei Tecnici dell'Acciaio, is an Italian association with as members design consultants, architects, academics and industries united by the passion of steelwork construction. Its aim is to promote and make the development of this construction typology in Italy via this motto: "per lo studio e il perfezionamento della costruzione metallica".
Since 1974 CTA organises the "steel construction days" which are held every other year. The 28th edition took place in Francavilla a Mare near Pescara, Italy. 150 technicians from design offices, universities, industries such as steel producers and steel contractors, research centers, software house, engineering associations attended the conference.
Besides being one of the main sponsors, ArcelorMittal was taking part to the event with engineers from different segments (R&D, Flat Products and Long Products) to present the results of research, advanced studies as well as realisations.
One of the main topics was Innovation and decarbonisation in the steel industry.
ArcelorMittal presented 4 works on steel sustainability and reduction of buildings' carbon footprint, including the benefit of using high strength steel in reducing material usage and CO2 emissions. As main sponsor ArcelorMittal provided an overview on the decarbonisation journey of steel production and low carbon steel alternatives.
Traditionally CTA Conference is the main meeting for design consultants in steel bridges in Italy. ArcelorMittal was present with 6 contributions on the topic which found large interest in the audience.
Besides the conference technical sessions also professional courses were held, trainings are an important part of the activities of the CTA and ArcelorMittal is often a promoter. ArcelorMittal contributed to the fire safety engineering course as well as to the organisation of the sustainability course with a focus on decarbonisation of the built environment with practical example and applications. This was a great opportunity to meet and share valuable moments with colleagues, professionals, professors, researchers and enthusiasts of the steel world, after several years of forced distance.
