  • Steel for contemporary furniture

Steel allies with wood for a contemporary art exhibition

Industeel signs its second partnership this year with the teams of L’arc cultural centre, in Le Creusot (France). After Bob Verschueren’s monumental work of art displayed on the esplanade of Le Creusot’s theatre in the beginning of the year, two Parisian designers highlighted our steel plates by creating contemporary furniture now part of an art exhibition.

Ludovic Austry and Emmanuel Berson are the creators of « Gueule de bois », a company manufacturing designer wood furniture. The two childhood friends of Angers embarked on design years ago. One of them was a student at l’Ecole des Beaux-Arts then in architecture, the other attended HEC*.

The idea of the exhibition came both from the two designers of Gueule de Bois, who had a strong interest in Industeel’s steel plates and from L’arc’s curator, Laura Goedert, who was interested in the furniture produced by Gueule de Bois. The concept of the exhibition was to ally simple shapes and raw materials, namely wood and steel.

Industeel, who was asked to participate in the project, supplied steel sheets, mainly composed of Mars® 190. This product has a very great adaptability, combining easy workability even in thick thicknesses.

Industeel wishes especially to thank Philippe Levet’s team from the Blindabro department, in charge of producing steel sheets for armouring and abrasion. Despite being in the middle of the annual GESIM** Health and Safety Challenge, the team took time to efficiently answer the designers’ request.

Blindabro immediately focused on this project and provided Gueule de Bois with dozens of steel sheets in the required dimensions and they delivered them in a very short time near the exhibition place to facilitate transport.

Our collaboration with Gueule de bois, produced a beautiful set of furniture combining wood and steel. The free exhibition can be viewed in the reception areas of L'arc until 26 May, 2018 and after that, part of the artwork will be offered to Industeel.

Industeel is proud to have contributed to this artistic project, giving another image of our sector and showing the multiple uses of steel.
