BAU 2025: ArcelorMittal showcases innovations in sustainable construction

ArcelorMittal made a strong impact at BAU 2025. The event was an incredible success, attracting the interest of over 500 visitors keen to explore ArcelorMittal’s products and solutions.

Pioneering climate-friendly and circular construction

The primary focus at BAU 2025 was on climate-friendly and circular construction, aimed at significantly reducing the CO footprint while optimising material use. Four entities of ArcelorMittal were represented: ArcelorMittal Construction, ArcelorMittal Europe – Long Products Germany, ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products, ArcelorMittal Sheet Piling. Each of them came with innovations that were highlighted on the booth.

Low carbon-emissions XCarb® steel

ArcelorMittal’s XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel offers up to 74% CO savings in construction projects compared to conventional steel production methods.

Magnelis®, the  game-changer in the world of metallic coatings

Magnelis® offers unparalleled corrosion protection and is available as XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel with a CO2 footprint reduced by 65% compared with the conventional blast furnace route.

Granite® prepainted steel for building envelope 

ArcelorMittal’s Granite® range is also available in XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel, making it one of the most environmentally friendly roofing solutions available today.

Helioroof®: award-winning solar roof solution

This lightweight and flexible solar roof innovation reduces weight by 50% and allows for seamless integration into commercial and residential projects.

Ondatherm® sandwich panels

A prime example of the circular economy in action, Ondatherm® panels enable the full recycling of steel and core materials, supporting sustainable construction.

Green facades with Ondatherm® hybrid green

This solution facilitates the easy implementation of green facades, enhancing biodiversity and improving the microclimate in urban environments.

Steel Sheet Piling: a smart alternative to concrete

Steel sheet piles are widely used in large infrastructure projects, offering a sustainable solution for underground construction. A recent study revealed that steel sheet piling is both more cost-effective and environmentally friendly than conventional concrete alternatives for underground parking structures in Germany.

Key announcements at BAU 2025

ArcelorMittal & DGNB collaboration

During the event, ArcelorMittal Germany, represented by Arne Langner and Christophe Radermacher, signed the DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council) Declaration for Sustainable Building Products.

This tool helps define the sustainability performance of building materials, streamlining communication between planners, manufacturers, and architects.

Ateliers 3S & ArcelorMittal: a sustainable partnership 

The French company Ateliers 3S has partnered with ArcelorMittal to incorporate XCarb® steel into its innovative roofing solution, ‘La Parisienne’. It is made with ArcelorMittal Europe Flat Products’ Granite® Storm steel - a highly durable, attractive, anti-slip, colour-coated steel developed for roofing solutions.

  • This collaboration has led to a 67% reduction in CO emissions during production.
  • ‘La Parisienne’ combines high-quality design, durability, and environmental responsibility.
  • This partnership exemplifies how modern technology can drive sustainable solutions in the construction industry.

 ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products & Tracer: a greener future

Tracer, a French manufacturer of green facades, announced its transition to low-carbon XCarb® recycled and renewably produced Magnelis® steel.

  • Magnelis® is a highly efficient alternative to batch-galvanized steel, aluminum, and stainless steel (compliant with DIN 18516-1 standards).
  • Since 2010, Tracer has built 100% of its green wall substructures using ArcelorMittal’s Magnelis®.
  • With the integration of XCarb® steel, Tracer will lower its steel carbon footprint by up to 70%.
  • The corrosion-resistant properties of Magnelis® significantly extend the lifespan of Tracer’s vegetal facades.

Discussing the future of low-carbon steel solutions with VELUX

Additionally, ArcelorMittal and the VELUX Group engaged in a compelling discussion on the future of low-carbon steel solutions. During the session, experts explored the challenges of decarbonisation in product development and manufacturing processes, highlighting the importance of long-term partnerships in achieving ambitious sustainability goals. A key focus was how ArcelorMittal’s XCarb® solutions are driving the industry towards net zero emissions.

BAU 2025 provided a powerful platform for ArcelorMittal to showcase its commitment to sustainable construction. By pioneering low-carbon steel solutions, recyclable materials, and innovative collaborations, ArcelorMittal is actively shaping the future of the construction industry with climate-friendly, high-performance solutions.
