Fourth anniversary for XCarb® recycled and renewably produced in Long Products
25 March 2025
“As we mark the fourth anniversary of our brand, I am proud to announce that we have reached new heights in our commitment to sustainability and innovation,” says Tapas Rajderkar, chief marketing officer (CMO) ArcelorMittal Europe – Long Products. "This milestone is a testament to our unwavering pursuit of excellence.”
Mid-March, we celebrate the fourth anniversary of the launch of XCarb® recycled and renewably produced in ArcelorMittal Europe – Long Products.
In the last four years, we served more than four hundred satisfied customers from 33 countries and express our gratitude to you all. Your trust and support were crucial elements in developing the XCarb® recycled and renewably produced brand since 2021.
Four success stories, and many more
We also take pride in showcasing some of the most remarkable stories from the extensive collection we have gathered across 33 countries over the past four years.
2024: Our XCarb® sheet piles were installed in Newport, United Kingdom, safeguarding 2,000 homes from high tides.
2023: ArcelorMittal Hamburg delivered the first tonnes of XCarb® recycled and renewably produced wire rod to Waelzholz in Germany.
2022: Luxembourg railways (CFL) purchased XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel to aid infrastructure decarbonisation. Stephan WEYER, head of the energy division in CFL's infrastructure engineering department, stated, “We are committed and have a responsibility to act sustainably in everything we do - from design to operations.”
2021: Norway’s oldest steel distributor, Norsk Stål, opted for XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel beams. Leif G. Hübert, Director of Supply Chain at Norsk Stål, remarked, “Stocking ArcelorMittal’s XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel beams was a natural choice for us.”

Four product ranges available
Since the beginning of the initiative, the following four product ranges have gradually been available in XCarb(R) recycled and renewably produced:
- Sections and Merchant Bars: The construction market is driven by a strong desire to decarbonise. Fortunately, we have ready-to-use Environmental Product Declarations that highlight the low carbon impact of our construction solutions.
- Sheet Piles: Under the XCarb® brand EcoSheetPile™ Plus, sheet piles are a flagship of the XCarb® initiative. Remarkably, they are not only manufactured from scrap but can also be reused multiple times and are thus a perfect example of circularity.
- Bars and Rods: The development of XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel for this product range is technically the most challenging. However, the substantial CO2 reduction achieved compared to the BF/BOF route makes the effort worthwhile.
- Wire Solutions: Since Summer 2023, our entire vineyard offering has transitioned to fully XCarb® recycled and renewably produced materials, Crapal® Optimum, significantly enhancing the ecological footprint of any grand cru.
The fifth XCarb® recycled and renewably produced product – Rails – is in its starting blocks thanks to our LEAF Gijon project and will be highlighted during the next anniversary celebration.
