Magnelis® can make your green facade even more sustainable
13 January 2025
Tracer, the French manufacturer of vegetal façades, announces its transition to low carbon-emissions XCarb® recycled and renewably produced Magnelis® steel. Magnelis® for ventilated facades substructures is an efficient alternative to batch galvanised steel, aluminium and stainless steel.
French company Tracer is pioneer of vertical walls and vertical gardens in France since 2008.
The Vertiflore® facade system by Tracer cools the air next to the buildings. It captures carbon and fosters bio-diversity. It absorbs up to 14 dB of exterior noise and brings a unique aesthetic touch.
All these elements make this facade of "La Grande Epicerie de Paris" (right) outstanding and unique in the Parisian landscape.
Tracer is a regular customer of ArcelorMittal Downstream Solutions’ agency in Chalon-sur-Saône. For its creations, Tracer orders rolled steel sheets, aluminium but especially Magnelis®, a flagship product of ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products.
Magnelis® is an ideal product to build the metal frame of green walls:
- Its properties and particularly its high resistance to corrosion makes it perfect for environments with permanent humidity (the presence of plants implying biological and microbial activity and micro-organisms)
- It meets the standards requested by Tracer, which contributes to their CSTB* approval
Downstream Solutions delivers the Magnelis® steel sheets to Tracer, who then cuts them to the right dimensions for its customers’ projects. Tracer also takes care of installing the sprinkling system and the plants, selected with the project manager to meet the desired aesthetics thanks to a database of more than 300 plants.
Magnelis® is very sustainable compared with alternative solutions:
- It makes a lower use of raw materials and natural resources at galvanising stage
- It reduces zinc run-off during the product’s life.
- It is 100 percent and infinitely recyclable
- It’s outstanding resistance against corrosion increases significantly the lifetime of Tracer’s vegetal façades.
Today, by introducing a significant part of XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel in its production, will immediately lower the carbon footprint of the Magnelis® steel used in Tracer components by up to 70 percent, compared with conventionally produced steel.
