ArcelorMittal coming to Carrefour

Do you know the link between ArcelorMittal Europe and your local Carrefour store? The answer is pick-up wires. Pick-up wires, used in the recycling of cardboard packaging, are the specialty of Saucourt, a workshop attached to ArcelorMittal Commercy, part of Distribution Solutions’ Business Division WireSolutions. Commercy signed a partnership with the Carrefour Group for their French stores.

An environment-friendly process

Consumers are not always aware of how waste materials are managed in supermarkets. Compression is actually very useful as the quantity of cardboard packaging of the products put in display can be quite important. Supermarkets use balers to compress packaging into small, manageable bales which are then sold to recycling industries.

Our second contract with a large retailer

Pick-up wires are used to tie up the compacted cardboard bales. The Carrefour Group, European leader in retail granted the contract to our workshop in Saucourt. This is the second contract we sign with large retailers after the contract with Casino in 2000. Demonstrating the high quality of our steel was key to win this contract. The quality of pick-up wires is essential as break of ligature may generate an accident during handling.

Our challenge is now to guarantee our customer a perfect service and delivery time in order to renew the contract each year.
