ArcelorMittal steel used in Christo’s “L’Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped” installation

161 steel blocks weighing more than 800 kg each and cast in ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products' Dunkirk site was used to hold down the fabric that wraps the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.

"L'Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped", a temporary artwork in the French capital city by artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude uses 25,000 square meters of recyclable polypropylene fabric in silvery blue, and 3,000 meters of red rope to completely cover the famous monument.

The 161 ArcelorMittal steel blocks, cast in Dunkirk and distributed by ArcelorMittal Downstream Solutions' Savigny agency in the Greater Paris area, have been placed at the base of the monument to hold down this fabric for the 16 days duration of the exhibition.

On 3 October, at the end of the exhibition, the steel blocks will be taken out, to be recycled back into our production processes.

ArcelorMittal is proud to participate, however modestly, in this work of art!
