When it comes to selecting materials for the support structures for PV panels, factors such as durability, maintenance costs, and structural stability of the installation drive material choices. For the past ten years, Magnelis® from ArcelorMittal has been a standout choice. Magnelis®, the leading coated steel for solar mounting structures, provides an outstanding protection against corrosion for all components of mounting structures (tubes, rails, poles). It has been used to support more than 20 GW of solar energy installations around the world, it can offer up to 30 years lifetime in atmospheric conditions and soil, based on steel thicknesses and coating mass.
During the fair, ArcelorMittal showcased its new coating mass Magnelis® ZM800. After Magnelis® ZM620, the layer of 800 grams is quite unique in the world of zinc magnesium coated steel coils. Both coatings can be at least as corrosion-resistant as post-galvanised and thus represent faster and cheaper alternatives to post post galvanisation or aluminium. Magnelis® ZM800 offers up to 25 years warranty against corrosion in soils.
In order to reduce climate impact for energy transition and solar infrastructures, Magnelis® was launched with a low carbon-emission version under the brand XCarb® recycled and renewably produced, leading to circa 70% CO2 footprint reduction compared with the conventional blast furnace route. Additionally, XCarb® green steel certificates can be purchased alongside any Magnelis® order, for our customers to reduce their scope 3 emissions declaration.
At the Intersolar fair, several companies have announced to start designing & manufacturing with XCarb® recycled and renewably produced Magnelis®, as part of their efforts to substantially reduce their products’ CO2 footprint.
ZIMMERMANN PV-Steel Group together with Welser Profile, and Ib Andresen Industri joined at Intersolar 2023 to present a first joint solar project made with Magnelis® XCarb® recycled and renewably produced.
AVASCO Solar and ENTEK NV announced their commitment at Intersolar 2023 to make and install solar rooftop profiles made with ArcelorMittal Europe low carbon-emissions steel.

It is easy to deform and a good alternative to aluminium for outdoor applications, such as mounting frames. KS Profile presented the 3D model of their new solar carport, made with Magnelis® steel in grade S550GD-HyPer+ZM310 and with XCarb® green steel certificates. “KS Systems is proud to launch this innovative carport solution made with Magnelis®️” declared Koos Vlak, Export director of KS Systems.
Meko Metal (KMC Group) and ArcelorMittal, fully committed with sustainability, partnered to develop low-carbon emissions profiles coated with Magnelis® in a wide variety of shapes and grades: an excellent solution for the production of solar structures. “XCarb®️ is helping us to develop low-carbon emissions projects in order to contribute to a greener future,” commented Serkan Gürler, Vice President of KMC Group.
