Shaking hands on a significantly lower CO2 footprint

6 November 2023

KS Service Center is the first steel service centre in The Netherlands to buy Magnelis® steel which was produced by ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products using the XCarb® recycled and renewably produced route.

ArcelorMittal and KS Service Center held a small ceremony to mark the first delivery of ArcelorMittal’s XCarb® recycled and renewably produced Magnelis® steels to the KS Service Center premises in Moerdijk, Belgium. To further emphasize and to put into practice the focus on sustainability, the XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel with Magnelis® coating was shipped using electric trucks.

The XCarb® Magnelis® steel was created using a minimum of 75-percent scrap steel and 100-percent renewable electricity. The result is a product with a 70-percent lower carbon footprint than steel produced via the traditional blast furnace route. The product is also available with an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) which has been independently verified.

“For several years now, KS Service Center’s policy is to work as sustainably as possible. Hence our utmost efforts at all possible levels to maximise the reduction of our ecological footprint. Our aim is to become fully carbon neutral. We count on all our partners to help us ensure a greener future. And as such we are proud to have purchased the first 120 tonnes of XCarb® recycled and renewably produced Magnelis®. This results in a reduction of more than 250 tonnes of CO₂. And as this steel has been delivered via an e-truck, the sustainability circle is complete. Yet another milestone in our sustainability strategy. I am proud to be a pioneer in this journey and I am glad we can inspire our customers to invest in a more sustainable economy.”

About KS Service Center

KS Service Center originated from the parent company KS Profiel, founded in 1975. In order to obtain purchasing advantage for the profiles for its clients, the company acquired its own slitter in 2005. This immediately enhanced the delivery times. Overcapacity of the slitter is quickly used for other steel processing companies.
